Machiavellian

8 November 2008

English Death-thrash outfit Machiavellian officially signed with Year of the Sun Records for the release of their debut four song EP, 'The Impossibility of Death in the Minds of the Living'. The album saw release through the label in April, 2008. Machiavellian marks the first international signing by the Canadian label.

Recorded at Foel Studios in Wales with producer Chris Fielding (Primordial, Napalm Death, Raging Speedhorn), 'The Impossibility of Death in the Minds of the Living' was mastered by Russ Russell (Napalm Death, Dimmu Borgir). The group's eclectic sound fuses together all the sub-genres of metal, death and thrash with hints of doom and stoner rock. The EP prompted Zero Tolerance Magazine to hail the band as 'one of the most promising UK bands on the scene today. ' The band's explosive live show has earned them high profile opening slots for Job For A Cowboy, Misery Index, Dry Kill Logic, Sikth, SSS and Bring Me The Horizon.

Mantra

17 January 2009

Hailing from York, Mantra play classic rock, closest reference points being Wolfmother, Nebula and Year Long Disaster. Groove-laden, yet with great riffs, retro yet modern, this band deserve to be huge. Staggeringly, Mantra generate their power and musical complexity as a three piece. Oli is an enigmatic frontman and a great shredder. Cat gets a superb tone from her Fender precision bass and is a modern rarity as a thumb-picker. Seb is as solid as a rock on the drumkit. Their individual musical abilities are combined clinically well, they really are devastatingly tight as a band.

Martyr de Mona

The easiest way to sum up Martyr de Mona's style is as heavy stadium rock, big riffs and good hooks. Melodic yet hard hitting at the same time. MdM's vocals are a lot cleaner than most bands around at the moment and there's plenty of soloing too. They have a confident stage presence and clearly enjoy what they do.

Mindless Torture

18 October 2008

Mindless Torture play brutal death metal. The musicians that they have are more than capable and they write solid death metal with good tempo changes, some of the slower sections are particularly brutal.
